South Dallas Community Food Center

The South Dallas Community Food Center (formerly Operation Hope Food Center) opened in 1999 to serve the South Dallas/Fair Park community. The Food Center was opened in response to frequent requests from the thousands of less fortunate families in the neighborhood requested the need for food assistance. The people in this community are faced with a rising cost of living, rising medical costs, and loss of jobs, making this a much-needed program.

The South Dallas Community Food Center provides nutritional food on a weekly basis through the distribution of groceries, hot meals, bus passes, and gas cards to low-income families. To participate each family must meet the current Texas Commodity Assistance Program income requirements.

As of 2010, the South Dallas Community Food Center has distributed over 2 million pounds of food to the South Dallas community. Each month, the food center provides food to 4,000 or more families—and the high unemployment rate today is only increasing the need for this program. The Center is one of the leading agencies in the South Dallas area for assistance in feeding the hungry.
